For the past three weeks I have anxiously awaited the day I would officially become a Salud! Cooking School volunteer at the Whole Foods Market in Nashville. As of yesterday, I am now a part of the Salud! team, and I can’t wait to start volunteering! With over 30 locations nationwide, Salud! Cooking School offers exceptional cooking classes and demos for all age groups. Holiday bread baking, Caribbean cooking, cheese making, wine tasting, cooking healthy meals, sushi workshops…the culinary adventures are endless!
During my dietetic internship, I had the opportunity to help with the “Salute to Julia” hands-on cooking class, one of the most difficult classes offered as you can probably imagine. The menu included: Beef Bourguignon, Roquefort puff pastry, Gratin Dauphinois (Scalloped Potatoes), and Tarte Tatin (upside-down apple tart). The food was divine and I learned a few French cooking techniques. But what I enjoyed most was working with the other volunteers and the chef, and helping the students explore and create a delicious meal that I will always remember. And that’s why being a Salud! volunteer is something I really wanted to be involved in. To be a part of the effort to teach others about the joys of cooking meals at home with the people they love.
Expect to hear more about the culinary adventures from Salud! Cooking School.
